Keroack long served as the medical director of A Woman's Concern, a chain of so-called 'crisis pregnancy centers' that believes the distribution of contraceptive drugs and devices is "demeaning to women". It's totally wrong to place hundreds of millions of federal dollars-meant to provide access to birth control and reproductive health information- in the hands of the leader of an anti-birth control organization. To help drive Keroack out of this position you can send a donation to the planned parenthood organization. And of course as always; organize, educate, write, bitch and moan. Peace.

Hope all you newenglanders are enjoying the clean, crisp air. We recently got a nine month old jack russell, love him! The cool mornings make him shiver and i would like to attempt to make him some sweaters or other clothings. Right now i just wrap him up in whatever but it doesn't work so well. Just wondering if anyone had tried and found a particuarly good pattern or idea. He is my first small dog.

I would also like to put out some thoughts on animal shelters. Please instead of throwing out old or tattered blankets, covers or towels, donate them to your local shelter. And if you can afford the time, most shelters would greatly benefit from volunteers. Even a couple hours in the afternoon spent exercising the animals is a huge help and service. You might just fall in love too!

I just purchased some super small super strong rare earth magnets about the size of a dime. My idea is to sew them in to the seem of the shirt so that it just magically holds its self closed. I would then of course have the useful part of the frog clips removed without, hopefully, removing there aesthetic presence on the shift. I have several ideas on how this could work but I do not have the skill or the knowledge to pull this off my self.

i'm looking to start a feminist group with local women of all ages and backgrounds.

the main goal would be to meet bi-monthly for dinner/drinks/discussion of feminist politics and goals - a consciousness raising of sorts - but with fun and friendship thrown in there to balance out the cerebral part of it as well. it could be along the lines of drinking liberally or a craft circle, or just whatever works to bring women together to enjoy one another's company and share information to advance our place in the world.

i consider myself a liberal feminist well on my way to becoming a radical feminist (as i become more informed and more pissed off) but i welcome feminists of every variety and skill level. :-)

i haven't really worked out all the details yet, i was just throwing this out there to see if there's even any interest first, but i really want it to be safe, fun, informal, informative and generally ass-kicking!

if you're interested, please contact me and we'll see if we can't get this thing going!

I am trying to orchestrate the construction of a love quilt and an auction quilt. Details of it are at http://quiltersforcurtis.tribe.net

Would love to have you ... and sorry if you see this in other forums, I really would love to have more help.

Even if you can't make a block (they are 10.5x10.5), please consider adding your handprint to the back of the quilt. It's easy -- just trace your hand on a piece of paper, write your name and email address within the palm (so it doesn't get cut off when I cut it out). I will applique these to the back of the quilt so when Curtis needs love, all he has to do is wrap himself in this quilt to feel us giving him a hand.

Not One Damn Dime Day, Jan 20th
Since our religious leaders will not speak out against the war in
Iraq, since our political leaders don't have the moral courage to oppose it, Inauguration Day, Thursday, January 20th, 2005 is "Not One Damn Dime Day” in America.

On "Not One Damn Dime Day" those who oppose what is happening in our name in Iraq can speak up with a 24-hour national boycott of all forms of consumer spending.

During "Not One Damn Dime Day" please don't spend money. Not one damn dime for gasoline. Not one damn dime for necessities or for impulse purchases. Not one damn dime for nothing for 24 hours.

On "Not One Damn Dime Day," please boycott Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target. Please don't go to the mall or the local convenience store. Please don't buy any fast food (or any groceries at all for that matter).

For 24 hours, please do what you can to alter the retail economy.

The object is simple. Remind the people in power that the war in Iraq is immoral and illegal; that they are responsible for starting it and that it is their responsibility to stop it.

"Not One Damn Dime Day" is to remind them, too, that they work for the people of the United States of America, not for the international corporations and K Street lobbyists who represent the corporations and funnel cash into American politics.

"Not One Damn Dime Day" is about supporting the troops. The
politicians put the troops in harm's way.

Now 1,200 brave young Americans and (some estimate) 100,000 Iraqis have died. The politicians owe our troops a plan - a way to come home.

There's no rally to attend. No marching to do. No left or right wing agenda to rant about. On "Not One Damn Dime Day" you take action by doing nothing.

You open your mouth by keeping your wallet closed.

For 24 hours, nothing gets spent, not one damn dime, to remind our religious leaders and our politicians of their moral responsibility to end the war in Iraq and give America back to the people.
